Heteroarenes are among the most prevalent structural units in natural products, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and other compounds of scientific or commercial interest. In the last decade, a broad range of novel synthetic methods has been developed to not only facilitate construction of the heteroarene motif, but to enable its modification through direct Cï¿1⁄2H functionalization. This Handbook describes 117 key reagents for selective heteroarene functionalization reactions, including both traditional and transition metal-catalyzed Cï¿1⁄2H functionalization. Since these reactions typically involve one heteroarene, a coupling partner and a catalyst, the handbook not only focuses on the catalyst itself but also contains other key reaction species. All the information compiled in this volume is also available in electronic format on Wiley Online Library. The 117 reagents represented here are but a small fraction of the ca. 5,000 reagents available in the electronic Encyclopedia of Reagents for Organic Synthesis (e-EROS). e-EROS offers various search interfaces to locate reagents of interest, including chemical structure, substructure and reactions search modes. e-EROS is updated regularly with new and updated entries.

"The second edition of this classic text book has been completely revised, updated, and extended to include chapters on biomimetic amination reactions, Wacker oxidation, and useful domino reactions. The first-class author team with long-standing experience in practical courses on organic chemistry covers a multitude of preparative procedures of reaction types and compound classes indispensable in modern organic synthesis. Throughout, the experiments are accompanied by the theoretical and mechanistic fundamentals, while the clearly structured sub-chapters provide concise background information, retrosynthetic analysis, information on isolation and purification, analytical data as well as current literature citations. Finally, in each case the synthesis is labeled with one of three levels of difficulty. An indispensable manual for students and lecturers in chemistry, organic chemists, as well as lab technicians and chemists in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries."--P. [4] of cover.

This volume in the Patai series marks the "Golden Jubilee" anniversary of the series, with the first book in the PATAI Series having published in 1964. In order to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first book in the series, the Editors are marking the occasion with the publication of a volume on the chemistry of organogold. Over the past decade the use of Au in synthetic chemistry has increased exponentially. In addition, Au has become an important element used in biology, especially as surface templates. In the history of the PATAI Series there was, so far, no volume dedicated to gold alone. In 1999 we published a volume on The Chemistry of Gold and Silver Compounds. Since then a lot of new chemistry using gold has been developed and it is timely to focus a volume on methods and applications of organogold compounds. This volume fits into the series of “organometallic” functional groups, such as the volumes on organolithium, organomagnesium, organozinc, organomanganese, organocopper, metal enolates and organoiron [currently under development]. The Chemistry of Organogold Compounds focuses on three areas which dominated the developments in the past 15 years. Several reviews deal with the applications of organogold compounds in organic synthesis, reflecting the enormous progress which has been made in the use of gold compounds as reagents and catalysts. A second area of great importance is the use of gold surfaces in the synthesis of peptides, proteins and other natural products. A whole range of applications in the area of biochemistry has resulted from these developments. A third area of interest is the synthesis and engineering of nanostructures. Organogold chemistry, again, has opened the door for a wide range of methods and applications in the field of nanoscience and materials science. In order to celebrate this “jubilee volume” all three Series Editors will be involved in the editing of this volume.

A much-needed overview of the synthesis of chiral Brønsted acids and their applications in various organic transformations. The internationally recognized and highly respected expert authors summarize the most significant advances in this new and dynamically progressing field, with a special emphasis on BINOL-derived phosphoric acids. They also describe other catalysts, such as C-H, TADDOL-derived Brønsted, and sulfonic acids. For easy navigation, the chapters are organized in the first instance according to reactive intermediate and then sub-divided by reaction type. An appendix with selected experimental details for benign and straight-forward procedures rounds of the book, making this the number-one information source for organic chemists in academia and industry.
